ARTIST OF THE WEEK
Guest Directors
Listen to Guest Director's new release, "Intrference" in its entirety on Cafe Racer Radio.
Thursday Sept. 28th at 8pm!
Guest Directors began playing together in 2014, and started releasing music in 2016. Clearly shoegaze-inspired, but willing to take whatever creative paths present themselves when writing.
Guitarist/vocalist Gary Thorstensen is likely best known from his time as axe-wielder in Seattle grungle legends TAD, but has a wider-ranging musical CV than many would expect, with The Tree Climbers, The Navins, Tularosa, and studio work for Heather Duby. He stretches his skills in many directions with Guest Directors.
Guitarist/vocalist Julie D played in San Diego bands Chinchilla (all-female art/math/rock) and Drip Tank (“pop core”), briefly joined Seattle post-punk Mutiny Mutiny for their final release, and drummed(!) for the short-lived Cryptobebelem. She also plays “lead bass” in her husband’s band The Drolls.
Rounded out by a powerful rhythm section of Rian Turner (drums) and Charles Russo (bass), their live shows have been likened to Swervedriver in intensity and guitar interplay (and volume). The quartet has a confident chemistry with a progression of recorded material that demonstrates harmonic, rhythmic, and stylistic explorations that hover around a familiar sonic center.
